On-site Processing of Leachate to Reduce the Cost and Time to Remediate Salt Impacted SitesEnvironmental remediation is part of the process of returning land to its original state prior to disturbance. In oilfield sites, collection fields have been constructed to leach salt from the soil. This results in large volumes of salt-contaminated wastewater (leachate) that must be disposed of. The traditional approach to wastewater disposal in the oil and gas industry has been by deep-well injection. The removal of salt-impacted soil from contaminated sites is too expensive to be a standard method of remediation. An alternative is in-situ washing of the soil with clean water which produces a brine (leachate) to be taken off-site for disposal. Candesal Water Systems applies RO desalination technology to achieve the following:
Up to about 90% of the leachate can be re-used for leaching and eventually released to the environment with no restrictions because it meets potable water quality standards. In dry areas re-use of the processed leachate speeds up the remediation process. The result is a reduction in both the disposal costs and remediation costs (time). Candesal Water Systems is an equipment and service provider looking to partner with companies involved in environmental remediation and water management applications. ![]() ![]()
